End Punctuation

 

 

PERIODS (.)

 

Use a period to end a declarative sentence- a sentence that makes a statement.

 

Example: I like to go to the beach.

 

Use a period in an imperative sentence- a sentence that gives an order or makes a request.

 

Example:  Please pour me a glass of water.

 

EXCLAMATION MARK (!)

 

An exclamation mark is used at the end of an exclamatory sentence which shows strong feeling.  Do not use more than one.

 

Example: Oh no, I’m falling!

 

QUESTION MARK (?)

A question mark is used at the end of an interrogative sentence which asks a question.

 

Example: Why can’t those neighbours be quieter?
